Blue Raiders Take Down Jax State in Thriller

Blue Raiders win behind huge performances from Spies and Jansen
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — Middle Tennessee volleyball defeated Jacksonville State after dropping the first set, but rallied to take the next three. The Blue Raiders showed their heart during a crucial third set where they fell behind 8-2 and later 12-6 but managed to comeback and take the set. The scores of the sets were as follows: 26-28, 25-17, 28-26 and 25-22.
The Blue Raiders (7-10, 3-4) posted their highest block total in over a month, tallying 11 blocks on the night to the Gamecocks (7-13, 0-7) five. The middle blockers showed out tonight with Kiera Booth recording six blocks and Brooke Springer recording five. The Blue Raiders are now 5-1 when recording more blocks than the opponent. Both teams were very aggressive serving the ball tonight with MTSU recording nine service aces and 13 errors and Jax. State recording 10 service aces to 12 errors.
Andi Spies was the star of the night absolutely stuffing the stat sheet. The Fort Atkinson, Wis. native recorded a double-double with 39 assists and 12 digs, and added on six service aces, five kills, and three blocks. Spies six service aces are the second most by a CUSA student-athlete this season and tied for the third most by a Blue Raider during the 25-point era. Another key performer was Libero Laure Jansen who recorded 24 digs, good for an outstanding 6.00 digs/set. Brooke Springer had her best performance of the season tallying a season-high eight kills. In the Blue Raiders first 15 matches, Springer recorded 17 kills but has found her groove as of late recording 22 in the last four matches.
When asked about her performance tonight, Springer said the following: "Recording a season-high in kills is something that motivates me to keep trying to get better throughout the season and trying to raise that number every night. My teammates did a great job setting me up tonight and I'm really happy we were able to grind out the win tonight."
