MTSU Sweep FIU for Second-Straight Victory

Blue Raiders get back to .500 in CUSA play
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — Middle Tennessee volleyball defeated FIU for the second-straight day to get to .500 in Conference USA play. The highlight of the match was when the Blue Raiders went down 18-24 at the end of the first set and it looked like the Panthers were going to jump out to a 1-0 lead, but MTSU rallied and won the set. The scores of the sets were as follows: 29-27, 25-22 and 26-24.
The Blue Raiders (6-10, 2-2) showed their fight this afternoon, winning each set by a narrow margin and showing up when it counted. Tonight marked the second victory of the season where MTSU was outhit by their opponent. The FIU Panthers (2-15, 0-4) recorded a .216 hitting percentage to MTSU's .195. This also marked the first time this season the Blue Raiders won when recording a hitting percentage under .200, showing the team can win in multiple ways. The Blue Raiders recorded an excellent 10 aces and 10.5 blocks.
Multiple Blue Raiders had outstanding nights, starting with freshman setter Andi Spies. Spies was all-over the court tonight recording 36 assists, six digs, three kills, three service aces, and four blocks. Freshman outside hitter Aowyn Schrader led the team in kills with 14. After recording 10 kills in the team's first seven matches, Schrader has found her groove recording 91 in the team's last nine times out. In addition to Spies, two more Blue Raiders recorded three service aces in Adriana Rhoda and Ally Magre. Defensively, middle blocker Kiera Booth showed out this afternoon recording six blocks.
Following the team's performance, Kiera Booth said the following: "The two-match winning streak has given the team that confidence that we have been needing to get over this hump. Knowing that we can put all our pieces together, perform, and come out with wins, is crucial for us moving forward."

The Blue Raiders will look to continue the winning streak when traveling to Western Kentucky for matches on Oct. 8 & 9. MTSU will look for their first win vs. WKU since 2011. Both matches will be streamed on ESPN+ and live stats can be found at Stat Broadcast.
