Blue Raiders Lose to Miners in a Thriller

MTSU fought hard against a very tough UTEP squad
EL PASO, Texas — Middle Tennessee volleyball fell to UTEP by a score of 1-3 in the second match of the two-match series. The score was tied at one set a piece heading into the third, but the Blue Raiders could not hold off the Miners in the final sets, losing the third and fourth sets, each by a score of 25-23. The first two sets ended with scores of 20-25 and 25-18.
The Blue Raiders (11-15, 7-7) narrowly outhit the Miners (22-4, 12-2), with a hitting percentage of .163 compared to UTEP's .158. This match marked the third time Middle Tennessee volleyball outhit their opponent but lost the match. The Blue Raiders continued their strong blocking performance, recording an impressive nine blocks tonight. This marks the fourth time in the last five matches MTSU has recorded nine or more blocks.
Freshman Emma Nilson led the squad with six blocks, bringing her season total to 80. Two Blue Raiders notched double-doubles: Laure Jansen and Andi Spies. Jansen finished the match with 17 kills and 14 digs while Spies tallied with 37 assists and 10 digs. Playing libero, Alivia Bronner recorded a career-high 17 digs in the match. Middle blocker Kiera Booth was very efficient tonight recording 11 kills on a .474 hitting percentage.
