Middle Tennessee Faces Sam Houston in First Round of CUSA Tournament on Wednesday

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – The Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders (8-9, 5-4 CUSA) are set to begin their run in the Conference USA Tournament tomorrow night in a primetime, first round matchup against the Sam Houston Bearkats (8-7-2, 5-4 CUSA) in Miami, Fla.

The Blue Raiders will face Sam Houston for the second time this season, looking to avenge their 2-1 loss to the Bearkats on Oct. 20 in Huntsville, Texas. Middle Tennessee is 0-2 all-time against Sam Houston dating back to last season.

The Blue Raiders enter the Conference USA Tournament this week as the fifth seed after winning four of their last six matches down the stretch of conference play.
Middle Tennessee is coming off a 4-1 win over Louisiana Tech in the regular season finale on Nov. 1 at Dean A. Hayes Track and Soccer Stadium. Seniors Faith Adje, Sascha Nielsen and Lauren Spaanstra helped the Blue Raiders to their eighth win in 2024, each playing their final home game of their collegiate careers.
In the win over Louisiana Tech, Manon Lebargy, who was announced as Conference USA's Offensive Player of the Week earlier today, recorded her third brace of the season, improving her season total to 13, with goals in the 26th and 71st minutes.
In the 42nd minute, midfielder Hannah Murphy doubled the Blue Raider lead with her first career goal and a world-class strike from 30 yards out. After dominating the opening 45 minutes, MTSU controled a 2-0 lead heading into the halftime break.
Setup by Spaanstra's second corner kick assist of the night, Emma Brown added her name to the scoresheet for the first time in a Middle Tennessee uniform just two minutes later in the 73rd, extending the home lead to 4-0.
MTSU will look to remain unbeaten in the month of November with a win over Sam Houston in the opening round of the CUSA Tournament and secure a place in the second round against top-seeded FIU on Friday.
