MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Middle Tennessee softball has put the finishing touches on its 2024 fall season with the Fall World Series concluding on Oct. 31. The games featured an intrasquad battle between the Black and Blue teams. The Blue team took game one by a score of 4-2, but the Black team fought back to take game two, 7-6. The final game of the series ended with a 3-3 score after being called off due to inclement weather.
The Blue Raiders posted a record of 4-3-1 in their eight games against other opponents. The victories came vs. Trevecca, Snead State, Chattanooga State and Tennessee State, while the loses came against ACC competition from Georgia Tech and in two games at Louisville. The tie came was against Volunteer State. The Blue Raiders' best performance came in a win over Snead State, where they posted 15 runs. Anyce Harvey and Lani Jones hit home runs in the contest, and Macie Harter reached base four times, going 2-for-2 with two walks.
The Blue Raiders recorded back-to-back shutouts on Oct. 18 and 19 against Chattanooga State and Tennessee State. Those games featured five shutout innings from freshman Leila Ammon, who recorded five strikeouts. Junior Tori Coffman started the TSU game with three shutout innings and three strikeouts. Coffman led the squad with 21 strikeouts during the fall season.
Some freshman hitters thrived in their first collegiate action this fall. Third baseman Jana Want led the team with 11 RBIs and recorded a .343 batting average. Another standout freshman performer was outfielder Macie Harter. Often hitting in the leadoff spot, Harter led the team in runs with 10, hit .353, and drew seven walks, good for a .463 on-base percentage. Freshman middle-infielder Lilly Pendergrast also performed well, recording a .294 batting average and making exceptional plays in the field.
Among the returners, Anyce Harvey was outstanding at the plate, featuring a .409 batting average and six runs scored. Middle infielder Ava Brooks also had a solid fall, posting a .367 average and four RBIs.
When asked about the team's performance this fall, Head Coach Jeff Breeden said the following: "I'm pleased with how our fall season transpired, but we've still got work to do. I think we found some people this fall we can compete and win with."
