MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — Middle Tennessee men's tennis welcomed the Northwestern Wildcats to the Adams Tennis Complex on Friday, Feb. 16. MTSU earned a 4-0 victory over the Wildcats.
The Blue Raiders secured the doubles point winning on court No. 3 and No. 1. Karim Al-Amin and Shu Matsuoka tallied a 6-3 win on court No. 3 against Miller and Goli. On court No. 1, Ondrej Horak and Leo Raquin claimed the doubles point defeating Blekher and Nordby 7-5.
To open singles play, Matsuoka picked up a 6-2, 6-2 victory on court No. 5 over Casey. On court No. 6, Al-Amin earned a 7-5, 6-1 win against Miller. To clinch the match, No. 18 Raquin defeated Thieneman 6-4, 3-6, 6-4.
HEAD COACH JIMMY BORENDAME
"It was another strong outing here at the ATC. Crowd was hopping and I think it really helped us in the doubles. It was 4-4 at one doubles and had some opportunities there. Coming through with that doubles point was clutch because the singles matches were a battle. Northwestern is a tough, young team and they have already proven themselves that they are dangerous with a top-10 win over Duke. I am really happy to see Shu to be the first one off. That was huge. Then just the fight, we would lose some first sets and we kept battling and fighting. That is exciting. The hope is the see that on the road come Sunday and keep carrying this chip on our shoulder going into Sunday."
