Sanga Qualifies for NCAA Championship with program record in the 10K

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Middle Tennessee men's and women's track and field teams had five athletes compete in the NCAA East Regional.
Stephen Eloji competed in the 110H on Friday. Faith Nyathi, Purity Sanga and Odilia Jepchumba ran in the women's 10k race Thursday night. Carmelo Cannizzaro ran in the 3000-meter Steeplechase and Naythi and Jepchumba closed it out in the women's 5k.
Sanga would qualify for the NCAA Championship in the 10K after running a program best 33:11.98s.

Men's Performances
· Eloji coming off First Team All-Conference USA selection this Outdoor season, would run 13.98s in the First round of the NCAA East Regional in the 110H.
· Cannizzaro placed 16th on Friday afternoon in the 3000-meter Steeplechase just four spots out of qualifying for the NCAA Championship. He ran a time of 8:50.96s.
Women's Performances
· Sanga qualified in the 10k for the NCAA Championship in Eugene, Ore. after running a personal best in the 10k of 33:11.98s. Her time was also a program record at MTSU for the outdoor season in the women's 10K.
· Nyathi placed 31st in the 10K after running a 33:58.15s time on Thursday night after a long weather delay. In the 5K, Nyathi would finish 21st after running a 16:20.31s time.
· Jepchumba would finish 33rd in the 10K after running 34:02.46s time on Thursday. In the 10K the freshman wrapped up an impressive season after running a 16:21.48s time for 24th place.

The NCAA Outdoor Championships will be June 5-8 in Eugene, Ore.
