5/3/2024 3:52:00 PM | Men's Tennis
STARKVILLE, Miss. — No.37 Middle Tennessee men's tennis headed to Starkville, Miss. to take on No. 30 Georgia Tech in the First Round of the Starkville Regional on Friday. MTSU defeated GT 4-1 to earn their sixth ranked win of the season.
HEAD COACH JIMMY BORENDAME
"I have never been a part of a match like that where we stopped come back and have to stop again to come inside. The doubles point was just wild. In my opinion, we were stronger on all three courts. We kind of let some opportunities slip away. We knew in the singles how strong we are and it was a battle. I am really proud of the guys for how we fought in the doubles and singles."
The Blue Raiders secured the doubles point with wins on court No. 3 and No. 2. Jakub Kroslak and Shu Matsuoka tallied a 6-2 win against Chopra and Shokry on court No. 3. To claim the doubles point, Javier Cueto Ramos and Marcel Kamrowski battled for a 7-6 (7) win on court No. 2.
After two lightning delays, Cueto Ramos earned a 6-3, 6-2 win on court No. 6 against Sachdev to give MTSU a 2-0 lead. On court No. 5, Demis Taramonlis picked up a 6-0, 6-3 victory over Arora. The Yellow Jacks would get their first point of the day on court No. 2. Ondrej Horak clinched the win for the Blue Raiders winning 6-7 (3), 6-3, 6-1.
MTSU will face the winner of No. 15 Mississippi State and Alabama State on Saturday, May 4 at 1 p.m. CT.
SOPHOMORE ONDREJ HORAK
