MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Middle Tennessee softball (21-31, 7-17 CUSA) had two athletes named First Team All-CUSA, announced by the league office Tuesday, May 7.
Sophomore Ansley Blevins was named First Team All-Conference as one of the two catchers to earn the honors. Blevins finished with 14 home runs on the year for the second most in MTSU Softball program history. Her 10 home runs in league play led the way this season in CUSA. The Jasper, Tenn. native has now racked up First Team All-CUSA, 2023 All-Conference Freshman Team, 2023 CUSA All-Tournament Team and 2023 NCAA All-Regional Team (Tuscaloosa) honors.
"I am super grateful for the opportunity to be able to play this game and to be in the position that I am today," said Blevins. It means a lot to be recognized for all the hard work I have put in and I will continue to get better for my teammates whose support means so much to me."
"Ansley really matured her game this season," said head coach Jeff Breeden. "She had a great power year for us. She is deserving of all the accolades that come her way. She is the epitome of a student athlete and great ambassador for our university."
Senior Shelby Echols was named First Team All-Conference as an infielder. Echols started in all 52 games this season for MTSU and totaled 57 hits on the year for the fifth most in CUSA. Echols finished with a career batting average in the .320's and stole 40 bases in two years as a Blue Raider. The Pearland, Texas native adds First Team All-CUSA to her list of accolades that include: Second Team NFCA All-Region Team, All-Conference USA Second Team and CUSA Player of the Week.
"It means everything to me to be named First Team All-Conference," said Echols. "I tried to leave it all out on the field this year and give everything I had for my team. I wouldn't be here without my teammates, my family, and my coaches."
"I am proud of Shelby and her accomplishments," said Breeden. "She has played steady for us the last two years. She was among the top of the conference in hits all season. Shelby is a great role model for young players."
