Head Coach Derek Mason’s Chief of Staff shares her journey to the role and brings Blue Raiders fans inside the MTSU Football office.
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — Caitlyn Manning, the Chief of Staff for MTSU Head Football Coach Derek Mason, joins host Sam Doughton for the fifth episode of the Behind the Blue Raiders series, released on Tuesday on Spotify and GoBlueRaiders.com.
Manning's job as chief of staff is officially described on her athletic department as one where she "oversees the daily operational functions of the football program while working closely with Mason." Those daily operation functions can vary, from team travel and alumni relations to professional development and community engagement, but there's so much more to Manning's work that goes on behind the scenes.
As Mason's primary liaison to other departments in the university, Manning has earned a lot of trust from the head coach, dating back to working him when Mason coached as Vanderbilt as an operations assistant. Manning dives deep into her non-linear career path in today's podcast, before jumping into the expanded off-the-field staff she oversees within the football office. She also shares some of the logistical challenges that come with any FBS football program, from away game site visits to on-boarding players in the transfer portal era.
