MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — Growing up in Fort Worth, Texas, Connor Henry was surrounded by the game of golf long before he ever picked up a club himself. As the son of PGA Tour player J.J. Henry, golf wasn't just a sport in the Henry household—it was a way of life. Yet for Connor, his own passion for the game didn't truly ignite until his early high school years.
During the COVID-19 pandemic shutdown, his home club remained open. Connor spent nearly six months playing 18 to 36 holes a day with his dad, siblings, and uncle. His skills improved rapidly, and his passion for the game solidified. That stretch of time set him on a path toward college golf—and dreams of one day following in his father's footsteps as a professional.
Connor says golf has taught him lessons that extend far beyond the course: patience, perseverance, and gratitude. He credits his dad for always being a source of encouragement, saying, "He's always supported me in everything I've done, on or off the course."
After two years at the University of Oklahoma, Connor transferred to Middle Tennessee State University —a move inspired by his former Oklahoma teammate Jake Hopper, now a fellow Blue Raider. Once at MTSU, Connor was struck by the university's rich culture and welcoming community.
Through his time in Murfreesboro, he's also deepened his faith, finding a community of believers that's helped him grow personally and spiritually. "I'm eternally grateful for the people who have poured into me," he says.
Now an upperclassman, Connor has stepped into a leadership role on a young team. Guided by Coach McEntire, he's embraced the opportunity to motivate and mentor his teammates. "This scholarship is a blessing and Coach McEntire has given me the chance to help others be their best," he shares.
With his grounded faith, strong work ethic, and love for the game, Connor Henry continues to grow both as a golfer and a person—living proof that the energy you put out truly comes back around.
