MTSU Drops First Match of Series to Virginia

Blue Raiders lose 1-3 to UVA in first match of two-match series
CHARLOTTESVILLE, S.C. — Middle Tennessee volleyball dropped the first match of the two-match series at Virginia. All four sets were back and forth battles, but UVA prevailed to take the fourth and final set. The scores of the sets were as follows: 22-25, 25-22, 24-26 and 21-25.
MTSU (3-7, 0-0) were unable to overcome their 40 hitting errors as Virginia (9-1, 0-0) was able to capitalize on them. The problem that has plagued the Blue Raiders thus far this season, service errors, was not present tonight as the Blue Raiders recorded an amazing seven service errors to seven service aces. Senior Laure Jansen led the pack with four of her own, including the 100th of her career.
Outside hitter Aowyn Schrader had a career night as she recorded a career-high 16 kills. Over her last five matches, she has increased her kills every match going from 3-4-8-9, to tonight's 16. Junior Adriana Rhoda led the team with 17 kills. Reigning 2x Freshman of the Week, Andi Spies, recorded 40+ assists in her fourth consecutive match. The Blue Raiders had four student-athletes record 10+ digs in Alivia Bronner, Allyson Eckel, Laure Jansen and Andi Spies, with Jansen leading the pack with 21. The Valburg, Netherlands native also recorded her 1000th career dig tonight.
