MTSU improved each set to sweep Austin Peay
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — Middle Tennessee volleyball pulled off the sweep vs. Austin Peay to extend their winning streak for two games. The Blue Raiders got better with each set as the match went on, winning the sets 25-23, 25-19, and finally 25-15 to cap off the win. The home crowd was electric at the Alumni Memorial Gym with Family Day and Special Olympics Day taking place.
MTSU (2-3, 0-0) had their highest hitting percentage of the season with an outstanding .369 hitting percentage. Austin Peay (1-5, 0-0) recorded a .000 hitting percentage because they had as many kills as they did hitting errors. The Blue Raiders started out the match slow, going down 15-11 in the first set, but showed their fight to take the first set and never looked back.
Outside hitter Adriana Rhoda led the team in kills with 11 on an elite .417 hitting percentage. As a team, the Blue Raiders recorded seven service aces in just three sets with Andi Spies, Reagan McIntosh, and Laure Jansen all recording two. Senior Laure Jansen led the team in digs with 10 and freshman Ally Magre was not far behind with nine.
When asked about what it means to have a large crowd with many of them being little girls, Kiera Booth said, "That's what it's all about. Playing in your home gym and having a turn out like that, it inspires us to play better. Getting to talk to the girls, sign stuff for them, and take photos with them was the best part of the night."
