Gregory breaks MTSU all-time 3PT record in win over Lady Techsters
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - The Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders (14-6, 6-1 CUSA) remained unbeaten at home in 2024-25, improving their record to a perfect 8-0 inside the Murphy Center, with a 61-43 win today over the Louisiana Tech Lady Techsters (11-8, 4-4 CUSA) on Saturday.
Senior guard Jalynn Gregory wasted no time breaking Courtney Whitson's three-point field goal program record, knocking down her 301st career three-pointer just 20 seconds into the game, setting the tone during the early going. In the final seconds, Gregory would drain another shot from beyond the arc, recording her 1,500th career point, becoming the 13th player to reach the milestone.
The opening quarter of play would end with Middle Tennessee leading 16-15 following a closely matched, hard-fought first 10 minutes. Ta'Mia Scott got off to a hot start on the offensive end, scoring eight of her 13 points in the first quarter to lead the Blue Raiders to a one-point advantage after the end of one. MTSU would extend that advantage in the second quarter, controlling an eight-point lead heading into the halftime break.
Anastasiia Boldyreva was the standout performer in the third quarter, scoring 10 of her 22 points and grabbing three of her 15 rebounds coming out of the intermission. The Blue Raiders led by as many as 13 in the third period, maintaining a 10-point lead by quarter's end.
Middle Tennessee closed out an 18-point win on their home floor, building their largest lead of the afternoon by way of Gregory's career-milestone three-pointer in the final minute of the game.
Boldyreva led all scorers with 22 points, to go with 15 rebounds, her seventh double-double of the season and her 15th game scoring in double figures. In her record-breaking day, Gregory scored 17 points on 4-9 shooting from beyond the arc. As a team, Middle Tennessee held the Lady Techsters to just 27% shooting from the floor and won the rebounding battle 36-30, including a +4 advantage on the offensive glass.
By the Numbers
305 & 1,500: Jalynn Gregory surpassed former record holder Courtney Whitson with her 301st career three point field goal. Later in the game, Gregory recorded her 1,500th career point in her fourth year with the Blue Raiders.
7: Anastasiia Boldyreva recorded her seventh double-double of the season today against the Lady Techsters with an impressive 22-point, 15-rebound performance.
20: The Blue Raiders forced 20 LA Tech-turnovers off nine steals, including a career-high seven steals from Gregory.
Thoughts from Head Coach Rick Insell
"We went down and started playing pretty good defense. That's kind of what we do. As important as Nas is on the inside rebounding the ball and blocking shots, Jalynn Gregory is just as important on the perimeter on the defensive end."
"We have a few tough road games coming up. You get to the other level on the road. You don't get to it at home. On the road, you have to play in their gym, against their fans, their officials right down the line. That's where you grow up. So, we have a chance next week to grow up a little."
Player's Perspective with Jalynn Gregory
"Everyone has been talking about the record. I've known about it for a while and coming out and hitting that first three was just a relief. I was like, "Ok, now let's just play."
Blue Raider Notes
The Blue Raiders extend their series lead over Louisiana Tech to 14-7, with MTSU winning each of the last six meetings.
