Dallas, Texas — Middle Tennessee baseball drops game one versus No. 15 Dallas Baptist, 10-0 in seven innings on Friday evening.
Middle Tennessee (12-9) fell behind early, and couldn't get it going offensively against DBU (15-7) to get shut out for the first time this season.
RHP Trace Phillips made started his fifth game of the year, after missing last Friday against UAB. He started out hot, striking out the first two batters he faced on check swings. Then, after a weak ground ball up the middle by CUSA Preseason Player of the Year, Grant Jay, the inning continued and the Blue Raiders got in trouble early with the bases loaded. The Patriots pushed two across in the first, then rallied again in the second for three runs to lead 5-0.
Phillips went back out to start the third and got the first out, but was taken out and replaced by Landen Burch who had a solid outing. The righty finished the third, fourth, and fifth without giving up a run. The Patriots would get to Burch in the sixth, and force MTSU to make a move to the bullpen to Jack Fortner, Garrett Sims, then Ethan Imbimbo to close the game.
DBU would score five runs in the sixth and seventh inning to take the run-rule victory 10-0.
