Leila Ammon posts career-high in strikeouts
RUSTON, La. — Middle Tennessee softball fell to LA Tech 7-2 on March 21 in Ruston, La.
Despite the final score, freshman Leila Ammon delivered an impressive performance for the Blue Raiders (13-17, 3-4), setting a new career-high with 10 strikeouts against LA Tech (17-11, 5-2). Her previous high was six, achieved twice earlier in the season. Ammon also held the Bulldogs to only singles, not allowing a single extra-base hit.
Ammon became the first Blue Raider to record double-digit strikeouts in a game since Gretchen Greer accomplished the feat in 2017. She is also the first MTSU pitcher in over a year to strike out more than eight batters in a single game.
Offensively, the Blue Raiders were led by Jana Want, who went 2/2 with a home run and a double. In her third plate appearance, LA Tech elected to walk her. Both the double and the home run were her sixth of the season in each category. Want, a freshman, now boasts a .571 batting average in conference play—the best in Conference USA.
