HUNTSVILLE, Texas – The Middle Tennessee women's tennis team kicked off its final road trip of the regular season with a bang, defeating Sam Houston 4-0 in Huntsville, Texas Friday afternoon. The win over the Bearkats extends the Blue Raiders' winning streak to six matches, while improving the Conference USA record to 5-2.
Doubles play started strong for MTSU, with Sam Houston not fielding a tandem for court three, giving Sara Conde and Zenn Lim the default win. Down to just needing one court to secure the doubles point, Alessia Truden and Rutuja Chaphalkar continued their success as a duo with a swift 6-2 win to give the Blue Raiders the early advantage.
The Bearkats forfeited court six in singles to Lim, putting the four points needed to clinch within reach. Lena Peyer picked up the first singles win of the day for Middle Tennessee at court three. The sophomore extended her unbeaten streak to six games with a 6-2, 6-3 straight-set win to give the Blue Raiders a 3-0 lead.
Not long after, Truden clinched the final regular season conference match for MTSU at court one. The graduate student got an easy 6-2 first set win but faced more difficulty in the second. Not missing a beat, Truden kept pushing to win with a late break (6-2, 6-4).
