Women's Golf ready for Conference USA Championships

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – The Middle Tennessee women's golf program is set to embark on its first Conference USA Championship under head coach Lauren Wamsley beginning Monday. The tournament will run from April 14-16 at the World Golf Village in St. Augustine, Fla.
THE FIELD
All Conference USA women's golf programs will be competing in the tournament this week, including the Blue Raiders. Joining them will be UTEP, Western Kentucky, Kennesaw State, New Mexico State, FIU, Jacksonville State and Sam Houston.
THE BLUE RAIDERS
Abbie Lee, Ella Manley, Nicole Johnson, Jillian Bowman and Lanie Campbell will compete for Middle Tennessee at the conference championships, with Bowman competing in her first league tournament. Manley, Johnson and Campbell made the lineup at last year's conference tournament, with Manley earning the title of MTSU low finisher at 225 (+9) overall.
THE TOURNAMENT
The championship will take place over the course of three days with the players playing one round per day. All rounds will begin with tee times and Middle Tennessee will be paired with WKU and Sam Houston in the opening round. The winner of the tournament will earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Women's Golf Championship in May.
THE COURSE
The event takes place at the World Golf Village in St. Augustine, Fla. on the Slammer and Squire Golf Course. It debuted in 1998 and was crafted by Bobby Weed, Sam Snead and Gene Sarazen. The Slammer and Squire has hosted numerous prestigious events like the Liberty Mutual Legends of Golf on the Senior PGA Tour, the LPGA Senior Tour's Handa Cup and the ANNIKA Invitational USA.The course will play as a par 72 at roughly 6,128 yards per round.
