PAWLEYS ISLAND, S.C. – It was a round for the record books for Middle Tennessee women's golf Wednesday afternoon, as the team secured second place in the Golfweek Spring Challenge at Caledonia Golf & Fish Club. With the lowest round of the tournament, a 282 (-2), the Blue Raiders brought home their second top-two finish this season, the first time since the 2018-19 season that this has been accomplished.
MTSU completed the tournament with a total of 861 (+9), marking the sixth-lowest 54-hole tournament total in program history. The third round (282) ties the fourth-lowest round in MT history and the lowest since 2022.
Abbie Lee shined brightly in the tournament as the runner-up thanks to a career-low final round. The senior birdied six holes, three on each nine, to turn in a 67 (-4), tying the seventh-lowest round in program history. Lee's consistency earned her the highest finish in her collegiate career at T2, boasting the fourth-lowest 54-hole all-time total. This marked her second-consecutive top 10 finish, placing 10th in the Puerto Rico Shootout last week.
Ella Manley tallied her lowest round of the tournament on the final day with a 72 (+1). She sat at par through the turn, finishing at T12 overall. The place marks her second top 20 finish of the season and the best since the Cardinal Cup, shooting 219 (+6) through 54.
Jillian Bowman and Nicole Johnson wrapped up the event tied for 17th, the best collegiate finish for both golfers. Johnson retaliated against yesterday's round by firing one at par to jump up five places on the player leaderboard for her second-lowest 54-hole total of the season at 221.
Bowman struggled to find consistency on the final day of competition, though still managed to secure her first career top 20 finish. She shot birdies on holes seven and 17 for a 76 (+5) and her lowest tournament score of the 2024-25 campaign.
Lanie Campbell had a stellar start to her final round, dropping in four birdies on her front nine to make the turn at four-under-par. The back nine proved to be more difficult, but she persevered to tally a 72 (+1) to climb to T26. Her 225 (+12) total marked her fourth top 30 finish of the season and first of the spring campaign.
