KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – For the second consecutive tournament, the Middle Tennessee women's golf team has brought home a top-three team finish and the runner-up in the individual competition at the Tennessee Spring Challenge. The team placed third overall with a 589 (+13) in the 36-hole event at Fox Den Country Club, highlighted by shooting the first 18 holes of the day at par.
Ella Manley led the Blue Raiders Monday, carding an impressive 141 (-3) in the two rounds to come in second at the tournament. The sophomore turned in a 68 (-4) to open up the day, a career-low for the Georgia native, before completing the second round at 73 (+1) to earn her best finish of the season and match her best career tournament place.
Abbie Lee continued her streak of impressive tournament runs, finishing in fifth in Knoxville. Her scoring average continues to drop with each round played, and a 69 (-3) in the opening round definitely helped. She's tallied a team-leading eight rounds at par thus far, sitting tied for 10th in program history. The back half of the day proved a bit more difficult than the front, turning in a 75 (+3) on the final round, though she completed the tournament at par with a 144 for her third-consecutive top-10 finish and second-straight top-five.
Nicole Johnson came in third for MTSU, with her better round of the two coming in the morning session. She turned in a 75 (+3), complemented by two birdies in the opening round and completed the day with a 78 (+6) to finish in 27th (153).
Lanie Campbell wrapped up her tournament tied for 42nd, carding a 158 (+14) through the 36 holes. She had a difficult opening round at 83 (+11), though was able to quickly bounce back and grab a 75 (+3) in the final round, tallying two birdies as well.
Jillian Bowman and Caroline Pardue finished in 45th at 160 (+16) for the event. In her first tournament back since early March, Pardue, competing as an individual, had a relatively balanced day, carding an 81 (+9) in the first round and a 79 (+7) in the second. Bowman got off to a good start with a 76 (+4) in the opening 18, but struggled to find consistency on the final 18, shooting an 84 (+12) to close out the day.
The Blue Raiders will return to action for the Conference USA Championships at World Golf Village in St. Augustine, Fla. from April 14-16.
