MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — In the heart of Middle Tennessee State University football, there's quite a force holding things down in the trenches — redshirt Junior offensive lineman Mateo Guevera. A fourth-year Blue Raider from Flowery Branch, Georgia, Guevera has become the embodiment of what it means to be "Boro Built, Middle Made."
Starting all 12 games in the 2024 season, Guevera logged 757 total snaps — the most by any lineman and second most of any offensive player on the roster. But his impact goes far beyond the numbers. His journey is one of resilience, heart, and deep personal investment.
It all began with a rough first day of football practice when he was around five years old — a core memory Guevera still carries with him. That day nearly turned him away from the game for good. But through his father's encouragement, he returned to the field the next day with a new edge — and something clicked. He wreaked havoc, found joy in the grind, and fell in love with the game.
A product of Cherokee Bluff High School, Guevera arrived at MTSU with a hunger to grow. Known among teammates and coaches for fully buying into programs, Guevera has poured himself into every aspect of his development. That personal investment, now at an all-time high, is what fueled his decision to stay in Murfreesboro and continue building his legacy as a Blue Raider.
Guevara has said that Head Coach Derek Mason shares the same values-driven approach that aligns perfectly with the "Blue Collar" philosophy.
Proud of his Colombian roots, Guevera carries a sense of responsibility and pride for where he comes from. As one of the first in his family to attend college, the opportunity to play Division I football on scholarship means more than just wins and stats — it's about making his family proud and creating a lasting impact.
That same heart for connection is evident beyond the gridiron. Guevera is also a familiar face at the weekly Farmers Market in downtown Murfreesboro, where he represents the selling of "Blindside Peanut Butter" — a player-led initiative aimed at building genuine relationships between athletes and the local community.
For Guevera, football is more than a sport. It's a platform — one that has allowed him to grow, give back, and honor those who've supported him along the way. Guevara notes the Blue Raider Athletic Association has been one of the biggest supporters — providing him with the opportunity to continue the chase of becoming the best version of himself.
As he continues to anchor the offensive line and deepen his roots at MTSU, there's no doubt: Mateo Guevera isn't just protecting the blindside — he's paving the way.
