Middle Tennessee Splits Wednesday Doubleheader

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — No. 37 Middle Tennessee split another doubleheader, falling 4-3 to No. 41 Yale before rebounding with a 4-0 sweep of Alabama A&M on Wednesday afternoon.
Yale secured the doubles point with wins on courts two and three. Jason Shuler and Dylan Tsoi defeated Eric Crivei and Jonasz Dziopak 6-4 on court two, while Jim Ji and Eric Li followed with a 6-3 win over Houston Jacques and Antoine Mayoral on court three.
The match on court one with the No. 80 duo of Karim Al-Amin and Ondrej Horak against Yale's No. 22 ranked pair of Vignesh Gogineni and Edward Liao was left unfinished with the Blue Raider leading 5-4.
The Bulldogs extended their lead early in singles play with wins on courts three and five. Shuler defeated junior Birtan Duran 6-3, 6-3, and Li topped senior Freddy Murray 6-4, 6-3 to give Yale a 3-0 advantage.
Crivei earned a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Ethan Chung on court six. The Bulldogs cut the first set to 4-3, but the Canadian native responded by winning two straight games to close the set. Crivei stayed in control in the second, racing out to a 5-0 lead before Chung briefly halted the run, but Crivei finished the match 6-1.
Yale secured the match on court one, where No. 43 Gogineni defeated Horak 7-6, 6-2 to clinch the 4-1 victory for the Bulldogs.
The match played out on singles; Middle Tennessee responded with Al-Amin who rallied past Liao in a dramatic three-set battle on court two, winning 6-7, 6-2, 1-0 (11-9). Dziopak added another point for the Blue Raiders with a 7-5, 7-6 victory over Jim Ji on court four.
Middle Tennessee bounced back in the second match of the day with a 4-0 win over Alabama A&M.
The Blue Raiders grabbed the doubles point with victories on courts one and three. The pairing of Al-Amin and Horak defeated Goran Krivokapic and Arnav Pathange 6-1, while Birtan Duran and Santiago Lora earned a 6-3 win over Tasso Moreira and Eduardo Andreta. This is the first time Lora and Duran played doubles this season.
Middle Tennessee carried that momentum into singles play, which they played until clinched. Mayoral followed with a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Andreta on court five. The opening set was tied 2-2 before the Frenchman won four straight games to take the set and carried the momentum into the second, where he closed out the match with a shutout.
Lora won on court six with a 6-1, 6-1 win against Krivokapic, Duran clinched the match for the Blue Raiders on 6-0, 6-1 win against Yin Chih Lan on court two to secure the 4-0 sweep.
