Middle Tennessee Drops Conference Match at FIU, 4-1

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — Middle Tennessee (5-11, 1-3 CUSA) fell 4-1 to FIU (4-7, 1-0 CUSA) on Friday afternoon at the PayCargo Tennis Center.
After a one hour rain delay, the Blue Raiders secured the doubles point to take an early lead. On court one, sophomore Sara Conde and freshman Sthefany Lima earned a 7-5 win over FIU's Katerina Mandelikova and Viktorie Hazmukova, while senior Rutuja Chaphalkar and freshman Zora Koenig added a 6-2 victory against Jelena Vico and Vittoria Baccino.
FIU responded with four straight singles wins to secure the match.
At court one, Mandelikova defeated junior Lena Peyer, 6-2, 6-0. Peyer picked up two games in the opening set, but Mandelikova closed it out and carried the momentum into a dominant second set to even the match at 1-1.
Koenig fell to Vico, 6-3, 6-3, at No. 2. Koenig battled to a 3-3 tie in the first set before Vico won three consecutive games. In the second set, Koenig recorded multiple breaks, but Vico maintained control to give FIU a 2-1 lead.
On court four, Conde dropped a 6-0, 6-2 decision to Maria Araoz-Gosn. Conde managed two games in the second set but was unable to shift the momentum. FIU leads 3-1.
Hazmukova clinched the match for FIU at No. 5, defeating Zenn Lim, 6-4, 6-2. The opening set remained tight, tied at 2-2 and again at 4-4, before Hazmukova won the final two games. Lim added two games in the second set.
Two matches went unfinished in the third set. Baccino led Lima 3-6, 6-2, 2-0 on court three, while Aleksandra Simeva held a 1-6, 6-2, 4-2 advantage over Sadbaroy Kholdarova at court six.
