BIRMINGHAM, Ala.- Middle Tennessee baseball (9-5) fell 12-2 in its road opener to the UAB Blazers (8-6).

UAB's offense was operating early and often, with two solo home runs in the bottom of the first against starter Gavin King (L, 1-2). The Blazers added three more runs against King, with two of them falling in the right-hander's line as earned.

Blue Raiders' head coach Jerry Meyers was quick to turn to the bullpen, bringing in junior right-hander Abel Albarran in the second inning.. The junior college transfer provided MTSU with a much needed 4.2 innings of relief.

On offense, Middle Tennessee's potent offense was held relatively silent by UAB's Mason Steele (W, 1-1).

Cooper Clapp singled home Brett Vondohlen for an RBI single in the second, while Nathan Brewer picked up an RBI groundout in the fourth to score Brett Rogers in the fourth.

Rogers was one of four Blue Raiders to pick up a hit in the loss, with two singles on the day.

Right-handers Bryant Beranek and Cole Cates also made appearances out of the bullpen for the Blue Raiders.
