Middle Tennessee Splits Doubleheader, Defeats Chicago State Before Falling to Pacific

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — Middle Tennessee split a Monday doubleheader, defeating Chicago State 4-0 before falling to Pacific 4-2 later in the afternoon.
Against Chicago State
Middle Tennessee established an early advantage in doubles play. The combination of senior Rutuja Chaphalkar and freshman Sthefany Lima secured a 6-1 victory at No. 2 doubles, while senior Zenn Lim and junior Lena Peyer matched that score with a 6-1 win at No. 3, clinching the doubles point.
In singles, Lim achieved a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Nadjema Morille at court six, followed by Sadbaroy Kholdarova's 6-1, 6-0 win against Danina Hughes at court five.
Sophomore Sara Conde ensured the match for Middle Tennessee with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Mackenzie King at No. 3 singles, resulting in a 4-0 decision for the Blue Raiders.
Several matches remained unfinished as the contest concluded in less than two hours.
Against Pacific
Pacific set the tone in doubles play by winning the doubles point. The pair of Milena Maiorova and Indiya McLeod defeated Conde and Koenig 6-4 at court one, while Leyanne Hirota and Cindy Ung won against Chaphalkar and Lima 6-2 at court two.
In singles, Lim claimed a victory over Leyanne Hirota with a score of 6-0, 6-0 at court six, bringing the score to 1-1 for MTSU.
Middle Tennessee briefly led 2-1 when Lima defeated Rayna Sugai 6-3, 6-3, having been tied 3-3 in the first set before winning three consecutive games. Lima maintained her momentum in the second set, leading 4-3 and winning the next two games.
The Tigers responded by winning three of the remaining matches to secure the overall victory. McLeod defeated freshman Zora Koenig 6-0, 6-2 at court two, while Cindy Ung edged out Conde in a closely contested match at No. 4, winning 7-6 in a tightly fought first set that went to tiebreakers, followed by a closing score of 6-2 in the second set.
The deciding point was on court one, where Maiorova narrowly topped junior Lena Peyer in a competitive match, winning 7-5, 7-5. In the second set, Peyer led 5-3 before Maiorova won the next games.
