RUSTON, La.- Middle Tennessee (17-17, 5-8 CUSA) baseball dropped the first game of its weekend series to Louisiana Tech (19-16, 7-6 CUSA) 8-1 on Friday night.
The Blue Raiders struck first to start the series, scratching across a run in the second inning against LA Tech right-hander Declan Dahl (W, 5-3). Layne Akers led off the frame with a single to center, and later came around to score on a Dean O'Neill RBI groundout.
Middle Tennessee was backed by a solid performance on the mound by Chandler Alderman (L, 1-2). The junior from Poplar Grove, Illinois kept the Bulldogs bats at bay for most of the outing, ending his day with three earned runs on his line.
LA Tech's offense rode a five-run sixth inning to build a 7-1 deficit over the Blue Raiders. Middle Tennessee used three different arms in the inning, with Landen Burch called upon to strand runners on second and third to send it to the seventh.
Abel Albarran and Walker Shaw both made appearances out of the bullpen late for the Blue Raiders. Albarran struck out two across an inning of work, while Shaw picked up a strikeout and induced a double play in the eighth.
