Josh Wilkerson enters his second year as the Head Strength and Conditioning Coach for Middle Tennessee Men’s Basketball. He oversees all aspects of athletic performance for the Blue Raiders, including physical preparation, nutrition, recovery, and sports science through player load monitoring and data analysis.
In his first season with Middle Tennessee, Wilkerson made an immediate impact, helping the basketball team achieve an eight-win improvement from the previous year, a second-place finish in Conference USA, and the program’s fifth-ever NIT appearance.
Prior to joining MTSU, Wilkerson was the Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach for Vanderbilt University Men's Basketball during the 2023-24 season, assisting in the programming and implementation of a comprehensive athletic performance program for the basketball team. Wilkerson worked under the 2023 SEC Coach of the Year Jerry Stackhouse.
Previously, Wilkerson had also completed professional sports performance internships at both Vanderbilt University and Tennessee State University.
A native of Nashville, Tenesssee, Wilkerson earned a Master's Degree in Exercise Science from Middle Tennessee State University in 2024 and a Bachelor's Degree in Communications and Exercise Physiology from Kentucky State University in 2022.
Wilkerson also has a deep basketball background as a player. While at Kentucky State, he played basketball for the Thorobreds for four years, leading as the Team Captain his junior and senior year.
Wilkerson is a Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) and holds his First Aid/CPR/AED Certification through the American Red Cross
