Ryan McMullen returns to the Middle Tennessee staff as a graduate assistant for the 2025-26 season, after being hired in the summer of 2024. McMullen comes to Murfreesboro after a three-year tenure as a manager at Marquette University under head coach Shaka Smart.
McMullen assists the Blue Raider staff with opponent scouting and game preparation throughout the season, including film breakdown and analytical projects. He also oversees organizing team travel logistics, gear operations, supervising the support staff and coordinating summer camps.
During the 2024-25 season, Middle Tennessee recorded its 16th 20-win season in program history and ultimately earned its fifth birth to the National Invitational Tournament. McMullen assisted in the development of All-Conference USA selections Jestin Porter, Camryn Weston, Essam Mostafa, Torey Alston, Kamari Lands and Chris Loofe.
During McMullen's time at Marquette, the Golden Eagles made program history, winning their first Big East regular season and conference championship in 2022-23. The team's 56 wins in a two-year span with consecutive records of 29-7 and 27-10 were the most in school history in back-to-back years. Marquette advanced to its 17th NCAA Sweet 16 appearance during the 2023-24 season. In his three-year tenure, McMullen worked with three Marquette student-athletes who were selected in the NBA Draft - Olivier Maxence-Prosper (Dallas Mavericks), Tyler Kolek (New York Knicks) and Oso Ighodaro (Phoenix Suns).
He assisted in practices, individual player workouts, recruiting tasks, film and statistical projects and managed equipment operations.
McMullen created an Instagram account known as @NCAAHoopsNow, where he covered college and high school basketball on a national level from 2015-2023. Some of his work consisted of commitment graphics, breaking news and more. A handful of his content pieces ultimately reached national media outlets including ESPN and Bleacher Report.
A native of Franklin, Massachusetts, McMullen earned his B.S. in Journalism from Marquette in May 2024.
