Ray Oldham

Known as an outstanding pass defender, in his collegiate and pro careers, Ray Oldham gained the respect of opponents with his bone-jarring tackles. A full-time starter as a sophomore, Oldham was a member of MT's "Mod Squad." With teammates Ray Bonner, Ed Miller and Ken Coffee, he set an MT record in 1970 with a 100-yard interception return against Chattanooga. In his final two seasons, he was first-team OVC thanks to 13 interceptions for 246 yards and a touchdown as well as 28 punt returns for 176 yards.
After graduation, he signed with the Baltimore Colts and went on to play with the Pittsburgh Steelers, New York Giants and Detroit Lions. In his pro career his record totals 15 interceptions for two touchdowns. Oldham earned a Super Bowl ring for his play with the famous Pittsburgh "steel curtain" defense in 1978.
