Murfreesboro, Tenn. - Fans can get a chance to preview the 2002 edition of Middle Tennessee Lady Raider softball on Friday at 3:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. when the team hosts a fall scrimmage against Motlow State at the softball complex.
New head coach Cindy Connelley is getting a look at her team and preparing for a tough schedule in the 2002 season. The team played on the road last week at Tennessee Tech and swept the tournament 4-0.
Fifth year senior Amanda Kendall's no-hitter against Kennesaw state and Junior Erica Buhl's three for four day and two doubles against Tennessee Tech highlighted the games. Also of note was the team's 5-1 win over Belmont in which every position player got to play.
"The staff is pleased with the team's progress this fall, but it is going to take a lot of work to make this team multi-dimensional," Connelley said. "That is key because softball goes until may."
A school record six seniors are on the roster for the Lady Raiders who also have four returning juniors, two sophomores and two freshmen. Senior pitcher Jennifer Martinez, who owns every career pitching record at Middle Tennessee, leads the team.
Martinez, who hails from Fairfield, CA, took the top spot in single season records with a 1.18 ERA and 12 shutouts in 2001. She also had 201 strikeouts in 213.1 appearances.
