Morstad and McClean Compete in 2001 Canada Games

Murfreesboro, Tenn - While the rest of the Middle Tennessee students are attending the first week of classes, Lady Raider volleyball players Caia Morstad and Dara McClean are participating in the 2001 Canada Games.
Morstad and McClean are in London Alliance, Ontario representing their respective provinces at the games. Morstad is competing in beach volleyball and McClean is in the indoor volleyball competition.
Located at the Village of Grand Bend on the shore of Lake Huron, the 1500 seat venue will host the beach volleyball competition where Morstad, who is a sophomore outside hitter for the Lady Raiders, is playing with Saskatchewan Team 1. In the opening round of the preliminary games on Monday her team defeated Prince Edward Island Team 1 16-21, 21-11, 15-12.
McClean, who is a freshman outside hitter for MT, recorded 13 aces to help her team from Manitoba defeat the team from Northwest Territory 25-4, 25-5, 25-5. She also had three kills and five digs.
The mission of the Canada Games is to celebrate Canadian unity and sport. The event is athlete-centered games and it promotes cultural, educational and environmental programs that will advance the Games' celebration and legacy.
The first Canada Games took place in Quebec City in the winter of 1967 to coincide with the celebration of the 100th Anniversary of Canadian Confederation. Since then, the Canada Games have been held at two-year intervals alternating between winter and summer.
Preliminary games will continue for both teams through Wednesday and semi-final and final round action is scheduled for Thursday and Friday. Anyone interested in keeping up with the two teams Morstad and McClean are playing for can log onto www.2001canadagames.com.
Morstad and McClean will return to Murfreesboro on Sunday August 26 to continue to prepare for the Lady Raider's 2001 season, which gets under way on Friday August 31 at the Charlotte Invitational.
