NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Middle Tennessee volleyball (14-11) was upset by Belmont University (6-21) 3-0 (28-30, 21-30, 28-30) Wednesday at Aquinas Center in the Lady Bruins first win in school history over the Lady Raiders.
Middle Tennessee had costly hitting errors, which allowed Belmont back into the match in game one and dominate games two and three. The Lady Raiders had 25 hitting errors for a .193 attack percentage as opposed to Belmont's 15 errors and .345 hitting percentage.
"This is what happens when you take a team lightly," said head coach Lisa Kissee. "We just looked at their record and knew that they weren't very good, and didn't come out and play the way we needed to."
Sophomore KeKe Deckard led the Lady Raiders with 12 kills and Katie Thiesen and Dara McLean each had 10. Belmont freshman Lindsay Cleveland had a strong performance for the Bruins as she had 22 kills and a .625 hitting percentage.
Middle Tennessee hosts its final home match of the season on Saturday when the Lady Raiders host Florida International. It is also Senior Night, with the match scheduled for 7 p.m. in Alumni Gym.
