Okafor Sets School Record at Alabama

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Sophomore Rosemary Okafor set a school record in winning the 400m while Rob Jordan won the long jump and the men took four of the top five spots in the 400m Saturday at the Alabama Relays in Tuscaloosa, Ala.
Okafor, who ran the 200m at the NCAA Championships last week in Fayetteville, Ark., ran 52.77 to win the 400m Saturday. Teammate Nicolette Jarrett finished eighth in the event in 56.52.
Elsewhere for the Lady Raiders, Kim Freeman placed fifth in the long jump with a mark of 18-11.75, and sophomore Jennifer Howard was seventh in the pole vault, clearing 10-0.5. Freshman Kerry Barrow also took sixth in the 100m in a time of 12.03.
Senior Jordan, who has just the outdoor season remaining of his eligibility, won the long jump with a mark of 24-1, while freshmen Sean Waller (23-2.75) and JJ Sturm (22-11.25) finished sixth and seventh, respectively, in the event.
The Blue Raiders took second through fifth in the 400m, with Victor Okorie finishing second in 47.27. Wesley Dupar-Scott (47.31) was third, Waller (47.73) placed fourth, and Tim Hicks (47.74) was fifth.
A trio of Blue Raiders placed in the top five in the 100m hurdles, with freshman Linnie Yarbrough leading the way with a second-place time of 14.25. Garland Martin was fourth in 14.60, while Jasper Demps placed fifth in 14.64. Yarbrough also came in seventh in the 400m hurdles in 55.61.
Senior Levi Sybert placed sixth in the 3000m steeplechase, finishing in 9:30.85.
The triple jump and a few other individual events take place Sunday, but the majority of the day will feature relay races.
Both squads will run next week at the Mississippi State Invitational in Starkville, Miss., a one-day event on Saturday at the Carl Maddox Track Complex.
