MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Senior Manon Kruse broke the Middle Tennessee (7-2) career record for singles wins and helped the Lady Raiders defeat Murray State (8-10) 5-1 Friday at the Murfreesboro Racquet Club.
Kruse's 72nd win in her career, all played at No. 1 singles, broke the record set by Amy King who played at Middle Tennessee from 1995-98. Kruse, who is the No. 50th ranked player in the ITA, blanked Murray State's Melissa Spencer 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 singles to snap the record and win her ninth match in a row.
The Lady Raiders swept in doubles to take the doubles point, and after Kruse's quick work at No. 1 singles, Middle Tennessee led 2-0. Jennifer Klaschka put her No. 86 ranking to the test and defeated Jaclyn Leeper at No. 2 singles 6-2, 6-2.
Middle Tennessee gave up a point at No. 5 singles when junior Ana Maria Cibils fell to Murray State's Rachael Lask 6-1, 1-6, 10-4. Murray State's Cassady Pruitt won the first set at No. 6 singles against Jacqui Williams before the match was suspended.
The Lady Raiders return to action on Sunday when the team hosts Georgia State. Match time is set for 2 p.m. at the Buck Bouldin Tennis Center.
