MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Middle Tennessee has named Kim Rosamond as the interim head women's basketball coach following the resignation of Stephany Smith from the position on Monday.
"I regret that I did not have the opportunity to work with Stephany," Athletic Director Chris Massaro said. "On behalf of Middle Tennessee we would like to thank Stephany for her great years of service and appreciate all she has done in gaining national attention to our women's basketball program. We wish her all the best."
Rosamond has been a member of the Middle Tennessee staff the past two seasons, helping the Lady Raiders compile 48 victories, consecutive Sun Belt championships and first-round upsets in the NCAA Tournament in both 2004 and 2005.
"Kim was highly recommended by [Associate AD] Diane (Turnham) and Stephany (Smith)," Massaro said. "We have all the confidence in the world she will guide our program effectively while we are searching for a new head coach."
The Louisville, Miss., native spent five seasons as an assistant at her alma mater, Ole Miss, prior to arriving in Murfreesboro. She served as recruiting coordinator for the Lady Rebels in her final two seasons in Oxford, signing three former Miss Basketball recipients in the state of Tennessee. Ole Miss' 2002 recruiting class garnered a No. 54 national ranking, and her 2003 class ranked in the Top 50.
"Obviously there are a lot of mixed emotions. I am very appreciate of the outstanding job that Coach Smith has done here at Middle Tennessee and sad to see her go, but I am also excited for her as she begins a new chapter in her career," said Rosamond.
"This is also a new chapter for Lady Raider Basketball, and I have the utmost confidence in our administration to find the best possible candidate to keep this program at a championship level. My main focus during this transition will be to provide a sense of stability for our players and signees until a new coach is named, and I appreciate Chris and Diane's confidence in naming me interim head coach."
Rosamond earned four letters as a player for the Lady Rebels, playing for Van Chancellor three seasons and Ron Aldy as a senior. During her four seasons, Ole Miss won 67 games and made three NCAA Tournament appearances. She graduated from Ole Miss in 1998 with a bachelor's in journalism and advertising.
The search for a new women's basketball coach at Middle Tennessee is already underway.
