MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Junior Andressa Lyra recorded 15 kills as Middle Tennessee (2-1) defeated Tennessee State (1-2) 3-0 (30-13, 30-20, 30-16) Saturday in the Alumni Memorial Gym.
Middle Tennessee jumped out early on TSU and never looked back as the Blue Raiders cruised past the Tigers for their second win of the early season. The Blue Raiders hit a blistering .438 in the first game to take the game 30-13. It was much of the same in games three and four, as Middle Tennessee notched its second shutout in three matches.
Lyra, who was named to the Middle Tennessee Invitational All-Tournament Team, had 15 kills, which marks the third consecutive match she has recorded double figure kills. The match was also highlighted by the strong play of freshman Ashley Adams, who was also named to the All-Tournament Team, as she had 10 kills and a .400 hitting percentage.
Redshirt freshman Megan Carter continued to impress behind the serving line as she recorded three service aces against TSU. Victoria Monasterolo also had a solid match with eight kills and also had eight digs.
The Blue Raiders will play their first road match of the season when the team travels to Athens, Georgia to face the University of Georgia. Match time is set for 1 p.m. Central.
