Blue Raiders Fall to North Texas 3-2

DENTON, Texas - Middle Tennessee volleyball (12-5, 3-1 SBC) dropped its first Sun Belt Conference match of the season falling 3-2 (19-30, 30-24, 26-30, 30-27, 15-11) to North Texas (11-8, 2-2 SBC) Sunday in the North Texas Volleyball Center.
It is just the second Sun Belt Conference match the Blue Raiders have lost on the road in two years. The loss also snapped a six-match winning streak for Middle Tennessee.
The Blue Raiders played from behind throughout the match, dropping game one before coming back to tie the game at one before the break. Each game was close, with North Texas winning by four in game three and Middle Tennessee tying the game at two with a three point win in game four.
In the decisive game five, Middle Tennessee was plagued by costly errors to give the match to North Texas. With the game tied at 10, the Mean Green got four points off Blue Raider attack error to win the game and the match.
As a team, Middle Tennessee hit just .148 and had 40 errors in the match. The Blue Raiders also committed 14 service errors.
Sophomore Ashley Adams led both clubs with 23 kills. It was the third time this season the outside hitter had notched 20 or more kills. Junior Quanshell Scott was the only other Blue Raider to record double figure kills with 10.
Middle Tennessee continues its road swing through the Sun Belt next weekend with visits to Arkansas-Little Rock and Arkansas State. The Blue Raiders face the Trojans on Friday and the Indians on Sunday.
