COOKEVILLE, Tenn. - Michael McKenry had two hits, drove in three runs and scored twice, leading Middle Tennessee to a 6-1 victory over Tennessee Tech Wednesday night at Bush Stadium.
The Blue Raiders (7-10) broke open a 1-1 game with five runs in the seventh, including an RBI double from Josh Horn and a run-scoring single by Jeff Beachum. McKenry then belted a three-run homer to cap the scoring in the inning, giving Middle Tennessee just its third win in the last 11 games.
Beachum and Adam Warren both added a pair of hits for Middle Tennessee, who managed just eight hits in the game.
Middle Tennessee starter Jeff Kasser worked five innings, allowing six hits and one run with a walk and four strikeouts. He worked out of a bases loaded jam with one out in the fourth and stranded six Golden Eagles runners.
Langdon Stanley (1-3) worked two scoreless innings for the Blue Raiders to get the win, allowing three hits and striking out two. Tommy Sterritt and Allan Woodward both worked scoreless innings to finish off the victory.
TTU starter Patrick Kimmons worked six solid innings, giving up one run on four hits with two walks and two strikeouts. Adam Cloar (0-1) allowed five runs on three hits in one inning of work to take the loss, walking two. Kevin Cizmarik tossed two scoreless innings for the home team.
The Blue Raiders scored once in the second inning after McKenry and Wayne Kendrick started the frame with consecutive singles, putting runners on the corners. McKenry scored on a groundout by Nathan Hines for a 1-0 lead.
Ryan Wardlow doubled to leadoff the Tennessee Tech third and Brian Sprowl followed with a long single, putting runners on the corners. A groundout from Matt Mihoci plated Wardlow, tying the game at one.
The Golden Eagles looked to take the lead in the fourth, loading the bases on a single from Steve Soper, a walk to Stuart Meinhart and a single by Daniel Owens. But Kasser struck out Wardlow and then fielded his position nicely on a comebacker off the bat of Sprowl, keeping the game knotted at one.
The Blue Raiders finally broke through in the seventh inning, scoring five times on three hits and the aid of two walks.
Warren drew a leadoff walk and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt from Marcus Taylor. Horn's double just inside the third base bag scored Warren, and Beachum's single to left plated Horn for a 3-1 advantage.
After a popout, Todd Martin walked before McKenry unloaded on a 3-1 pitch for his third home run of the season, a three-run shot, giving the Blue Raiders a 6-1 lead.
Middle Tennessee begins Sun Belt Conference play this weekend, hosting Arkansas-Little Rock starting Friday at 7 p.m.
