Women's Tennis Plays Final Two Regular Season Matches

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Middle Tennessee's women's tennis team finishes its regular season schedule this weekend with a pair of matches in Reno, Nev., taking on Houston on Saturday and the homestanding Wolfpack Sunday. The Blue Raiders (6-11) won their final two home matches of the year last weekend, defeating conference opponents, Arkansas State and Troy, by identical 4-3 scores. The squad posted very different victories in the two matches though. On Saturday against ASU, the visitors won the doubles point, but Middle Tennessee rebounded with four singles wins, ending a six-match losing streak in the process. On Sunday against the Trojans, the Blue Raiders won the doubles point but stumbled in singles, with junior Claudia Szabo overcoming a first-set deficit to post the deciding victory. Houston enters the weekend 13-6 overall and will take on 62nd-ranked Nevada Friday before facing the Blue Raiders Saturday at 2 p.m. CT. The then 67th-ranked Cougars defeated Middle Tennessee, 4-2, last season in Houston, the only other meeting between the two programs in school history. Middle Tennessee has never faced Nevada, who enters the weekend 11-8 overall. The two teams meet Sunday at 11 a.m. CT at the Wilbur May Tennis Complex.
