MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Middle Tennessee's women's tennis team plays its final two home matches of the season this weekend, hosting conference foes Arkansas State and Troy at the Buck Bouldin Tennis Center.
The Blue Raiders enter the match 4-11 overall, with nine of the defeats coming to ranked opponents. The squad dropped a 4-3 decision to UAB on March 30 at the Buck Bouldin Tennis Center.
"This weekend is big for. We're coming off what is a disappointing loss for us to UAB and we've made a couple of changes in both singles and doubles," head coach Alison Ojeda said. "We're trying to figure out who wants to be in the lineup this weekend, who wants to compete and be in there.
"Saturday will be a test of how much character we have. A win could also really help with seeding for [Sun Belt] conference tournament as well."
Senior Hala Sufi, ranked 104th nationally this week in singles, will play her final two home matches. Sufi is 16-11 this year in singles and 9-6 in dual matches, but the Tucson, Ariz., native has lost four of her last five, three of those to ranked foes.
Sufi and junior Claudia Szabo have also been the squad's top doubles team, compiling a 17-8 mark this year, including 9-5 in dual matches.
The Blue Raiders take on Arkansas State Saturday at 11 a.m. before hosting Troy on Sunday at 1 p.m. The squad ends the regular season next weekend with three matches in Reno, Nev., before the Sun Belt Championships take place April 20-22 in Denton, Texas.
