Narramore begins quest for national championship

ALPHARETTA, Ga. - Middle Tennessee sophomore golfer Chas Narramore will begin his quest for a national championship when the 2007 NCAA East Regional Golf Tournament begins Thursday at The Golf Club of Georgia in Alpharetta, Ga.
Narramore, an All-Sun Belt Conference selection this season, earned an invite into the 2007 NCAA Men's Golf Championships after turning in a strong season that included seven Top 10 finishes in 12 tournaments and a team-best 72.8 stroke average. The Kingston, Tenn., native finished sixth at the Sun Belt Conference Championships and was one of the highest-rated individuals in the Southeast Region throughout the 2006-07 campaign.
Narramore is one of six individuals selected to play in the East Regional, hosted by Georgia Tech, along with the 28 teams that are there vying for an opportunity to advance.
The 10 low teams and the low two individuals not on those teams will advance to the finals at the Gold Course at Golden Horseshoe Golf Club in Williamsburg, Va., May 30-June 2.
Narramore played his practice round Wednesday afternoon at The Golf Club of Georgia and Middle Tennessee men's golf coach Johnny Moore said the course was a nice fit.
"I like (Narramore's) chances of advancing based on how well he has played all season and the fact he is really playing well heading into this tournament," Moore said. "This course seems to fit his golf game. It's a course where accuracy is so important and Chas is a very smart player. He doesn't beat himself very often."
That's a good thing, too, because this course is a tough one where par is considered a solid round. Just last month at the U.S. Collegiate, Georgia won with a 20-over 884 total and was the only one in the 15-team field not to shoot 300 in any round. Only one individual finished under par - Wake Forest's Webb Simpson at 1 under. This will be a test of nerves and patience and these are some of Narramore's strengths on the course.
Narramore said the thrill of participating in his first national championship has subsided and his focus is more on competing and playing the course than thinking about what is at stake.
"This is a great opportunity and it's been a thrill to think about it the past week but now you have to focus on what you are here to do and my goal is to be playing at the NCAA Championships in two weeks," Narramore said. "There are some excellent golfers here, obviously, but I believe I am one of those because we played a tough schedule this year and everything we did as a team has helped prepare me for this tournament. I just wish our whole team was here. I feel like I'm playing for all of us, though."
Narramore's tee time for Thursday's opening round is 12:23 p.m.
