MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - The Blue Raiders took a 3-0 (25-22, 25-19, 26-24) win over North Texas on Friday night extending its win streak to three.
Middle Tennessee (12-7, 5-1) posted a .309 hitting percentage with 47 kills and just 13 errors in 110 attempts.
"I was very proud of team. It is the first time we have come back to win 3-0 after a large deficit to begin a set. This was a huge step for our team this season," head coach Matt Peck said. "Overall we played a very good match, the offense was working, we were passing well and the block didn't do much until the end when we really needed it."
Juniors Alyssa Wistrick and Izabela Kozon and sophomore Stacy Oladinni each had 11 kills in the match. Wistrick posted a .667 attack percentage after going 11 for 15 with just one error.
"Alyssa had her career best match for us, however, we were expecting it. She had been doing great in practice, is jumping well and a great teammate on the floor," Peck said. It was nice to have her step up when we really needed someone to."
Senior Ashley Mead notched 10 kills in the match with three blocks including one to end the match. Senior Janay Yancey shared the final block with Mead and ended the night with four block assists.
Middle Tennessee had seven blocks as a team and had 44 digs. Senior Ashley Waugh had 13 digs while freshman Halie Vannoy posted 11.
"Halie is composed on court and had some huge digs for us in addition to a nice run of points serving," Peck said. "She is a good player and as she gets more experience and older will really be an asset for the team. It's nice to see a freshman help us win a match."
The Blue Raiders notched 15 kills in the first set for a .270 hitting percentage on their way to the win.
In the second set, Middle Tennessee took the momentum and pulled away. After two sets, the Blue Raiders had 32 kills for a .314 hitting percentage with 27 digs and three total blocks on defense.
The two teams battled throughout the third set but the Blue Raiders maintained the lead. UNT tied the match at 22 but the Blue Raiders battled and a block assist by Mead and Yancey won the set and match.
Middle Tennessee will be back in action on Sunday, Oct. 18 when they face Denver at 1 p.m. before beginning a four-match road swing.
