MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - The Middle Tennessee track and field teams will travel to Lexington, Ky., for the Rod McCravy Memorial meet at the Nutter Fieldhouse hosted by Kentucky as they continue to prepare for the Sun Belt Conference Indoor Championships.
"Towards the beginning of February we start putting the athletes in the events they will run at the conference championships," said head coach Dean Hayes. "We are still improving and these meets are important for us."
The teams have enjoyed great success early in 2010 with five athletes earning NCAA qualifying standards in seven different events. Cherice Robertson and Brittany Cox each qualified last weekend in their respective events at the Blue Raider Invitational. Robertson ran 7.84 in the 55 meter hurdles qualifying her for the championship and Cox threw 62-8 in the weight throw.
A handful of Blue Raider men are still looking for the marks that would qualify them for the NCAA Championship including junior Festus Chemaoi and sophomore Roscoe Payne. Both have posted strong times in 2010, but have been unable to qualify to this point.
"We want good performances that show improvement, but we have gotten some great performances that have qualified some of the athletes for the NCAA Indoor Championships. The senior leadership on the women's team has really shown through which is what we want."
Full results and coverage will be available on goblueraiders.com following the meet.
