MT Notches C-USA Victory at LA Tech

Blue Raiders grab 1-0 win on the road

RUSTON, La. – Middle Tennessee soccer collected its first Conference USA win of the season with a 1-0 victory at LA Tech to improve to 1-2 in league play and 4-6-1 overall.
Middle Tennessee once again started strong with four corner kicks and four shots in the first eight minutes of play.
The Blue Raiders and the Lady Techsters went into the half scoreless as MT led the game in shots (10-7), shots on goal (4-3) and corner kicks (6-1). Grace Summers, Kelsie Roberts, Tori Hawkins and Peyton McCollum all recorded two shots in the first half as Hawkins led with two shots on goal.
In the 55th minute Hawkins sent a through ball for Summers that Summers slotted past the keeper to give MT the 1-0 lead. The goal marked Summers' fifth goal of the season and ended the Blue Raiders scoring drought.
Middle Tennessee was able to hold on to the lead to collect the road victory. "It's always great to get a win on the road," Head Coach Aston Rhoden said. " I thought we played well tonight and now we will get ready for Southern Miss."
Before tonight LA Tech led C-USA in goals per game with 3.67 but Kelsey Brouwer was able to hold on for the shutout with three saves. Brouwer earned her third shoutout of the season and fourth win between the posts. LA Tech's Kylee Seto recorded five saves for the Lady Techsters.
Middle Tennessee finished the game with 15 shots to LA Tech's 11 as well as six shots on goal and ten corner kicks. Summers led the team with four shots, with her goal being the lone shot on target.
The victory marked the Blue Raiders second road win of the season as they head to Southern Miss for another C-USA game on Sunday at 1 p.m.
