Blue Raiders fall 68-44 in road game
STILLWATER, Okla. – Middle Tennessee dropped its road game at Oklahoma State 68-44 on Tuesday night to sit at .500 on the season with a 5-5 record.
The Cowboys came into the game receiving votes in the USA Today Top-25 Coaches Poll with an 8-1 record and undefeated on their home court.
With its seventh different starting line-up of the season, Edward Simpson, Marcus Tarrance, Jaqawn Raymond, Jacquez Rozier and Reggie Upshaw took the floor for the Blue Raiders. Simpson, Conference USA Co-Freshman of the Week, scored the Blue Raiders first five points in the game.
Raymond scored 11 points in a 10 minute span for Middle Tennessee in the first half as he would end the game with the team-high.
The Blue Raiders went on a scoring drought for over five and a half minutes as the Cowboys went on a 9-0 that Rozier would eventually end with a two-point jumper.
Oklahoma State would end the half with a 22-3 run as the Cowboys led 40-21 heading into the locker room.
Raymond scored over half of the team's first half points with 11 points off of 50 percent shooting. Rozier and Simpson were the only two Blue Raiders to get on the board before the half with five points apiece.
With nine turnovers by the Blue Raiders in the first half, OSU collected 15 points off turnovers.
Middle Tennessee would keep pace with the Cowboys in the second half as they held OSU to 4+ scoreless minutes on two occasions.
Phillips pulled down six boards to lead the Blue Raiders as four of those rebounds came in the second half. Phillips recorded a career-high in minutes with 22 minutes.
MT cleared the bench in the game with all 13 players that traveled getting time in the game as the team looked to find a rhythm. The bench snagged 20 of the Blue Raiders points in the game with Darnell Harris with eight of those points and Perrin Buford with five.
"Give Oklahoma State a lot of credit," Head Coach Kermit Davis said. "They're a very experienced team, very well coached, very physical. These guys have won a lot of games right here, there was a really good home court advantage. It's not that we've lost, it's how we lost. We completely lost our identity from Akron, I'm not saying our best was good enough to win here, it probably wasn't, but you have to have better play from your returning guys."
The Cowboys Le'Bryan Nash was unstoppable as he registered a game-high 16 points off of 62.5 percent shooting. Oklahoma State ended the game shooting 51.1 percent from the field.
Middle Tennessee finally returns home to host Chattanooga on Friday, December 19 at 7 p.m. after a six-game hiatus from the Murphy Center.
