MURFRESSBORO, Tenn. – Saturday the Blue Raider track & field teams host their first meet of the 2014-15 indoor season with the Christmas Invitational in the Murphy Center.
The Austin Peay women's team and the Tennessee State men's and women's teams will join Middle Tennessee in the invite.
The Blue Raiders return two from last season's team that qualified for the NCAA Indoor Championships. India Hammond notched her first All-American honors (second team) in the triple jump with her 12.70-meter performance.
In addition to Hammond, Eliud Rutto also earned second team All-American accolades for his 12th-place performance in the 800-meter. The Eldoret, Kenya native broke the school record last season in the 800 at the Hilton Garden Invitational, finishing second in 1:47.45 behind 2008 and 2012 Olympic qualifier Nick Symmonds.
MT welcomes many newcomers to the track on the men's and women's side, but will be without 2014 NCAA Indoor Championship participant Emmanuel Tugumisirize (second team All-American) and Cordairo Golden (first team All-American).
The shot put, long jump, pole vault and high jump will start events at 11:30 a.m. with the weight throw and triple jump to follow the shot put and long jump, respectively.
