Blue Raiders stymie UNCG, 4-0

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Middle Tennessee women's tennis notched its fifth shutout of the year by blanking UNCG, 4-0, on Saturday evening at the Piedmont Indoor Tennis Center.
For the second straight match, MT (9-6) claimed the doubles point and won the first three singles matches to clinch the victory. The five shutouts are the most since MT collected seven in 2002.
UNCG (5-9) gained the momentum early when Dilara Yurtkuran/Yasmin Franco upended MT's Jesse Grace/Irina Constantinide. The top Blue Raider tandem of Nayara Moraes and Tiffany William evened doubles action with an 8-7 (7-4) win over Kayla Gammie/Devon Sutherland. The Blue Raiders won the doubles point with Flavia Nagayama and Sarah Sediri knocking off the Spartan's Stephanie Falcon and Soumeya Anane, 8-7 (7-5).
In singles play, Moraes her 20th overall victory this season with a 6-3, 6-0 decision over Gammie at the third court. The Blue Raiders extended their lead to 3-0 when Tiffany William claimed her 12 singles victory by knocking off Anane, 6-3, 6-3. The junior from London now has a 12-3 record in dual matches this season. Grace clinched the match with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Falcon.
"This was a good weekend for the team," noted head coach Shelley Godwin. "We have really been challenging the way they compete as a we took a step in the right direction this weekend."
Middle Tennessee closes out the regular season next weekend, April 4-5, with matches against UT Arlington and Texas State in Arlington, Texas.
