MT Defeated by Dayton in Three Sets

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Blue Raider volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision to Dayton Saturday evening at the Stroh Center. MT will head back home with a 1-2 record while Dayton improves to 2-1.
Junior Chelsea Ross led with a team-high 10 kills while Brianna Pannone produced a team-high 18 assists and freshman Jacqueline Lux paced the Blue Raiders with 13 digs, giving her 47 digs over the weekend.
Lux and Shaughnessy were both named to the All-Tournament after performing solid in all three matches. Lux led the Blue Raiders with 47 digs in three matches, including a game-high 25 digs in the five-set win against Bowling Green. Shaughnessy came on late in the last two contest averaging seven blocks per game, including 10 blocks and a game-high 18 points in the victory against the Falcons. She also finished with 16 blocks and 16 kills overall as well.
Freshman LaDaisha Gillard, Jazmyne Johnson and Rachel Shaughnessy all posted a team-high with four blocks while Shaughnessy averaged seven blocks per game in the past two contests
MT took control of the first set early, jumping out to a 10-5 after Gillard, Johnson, Shaughnessy and Ross all chipped in with a kill. However, the Flyers stormed back after a timeout to eventually tie the match 23-23, and score the final two points to take the first set 25-23.
Like the first set, the Blue Raiders started out with a 8-4 lead early in the match before Dayton gained momentum with an 8-2 run to take a 12-10 lead.
The Blue Raiders regained the lead moments later, 16-14, before both teams started going back and forth that led to six ties and six lead changes. MT took a 21-20 lead following a block by Shaughnessy and Johnson, but the Flyers reeled off five of the next six points to take capture the second set 25-22.
MT would start the third set with a 4-0 deficit before coming to within two, 7-5, but that was as close as the Blue Raiders would get as UD kept MT from getting anything going and outscoring the Blue Raiders 18-9 the rest of the way to claim the match.
The Blue Raiders will have chance Tuesday to get back on track as Southern Illinois visits Murfreesboro for the Blue Raiders' home opener at 6 p.m. at Alumni Memorial Gym.
