USF defeats MT 3-0 in Blue Raider Classic
Box Score
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Middle Tennessee fell to USF 3-0 on Friday night at Dean A. Hayes Stadium in the Blue Raider Classic.
The Blue Raiders and the Bulls went into halftime in a scoreless draw after back and fourth play.
USF took advantage of it's opportunities in the second half as it controlled the possession. In the 49th minutes the Bulls' Leticia Skeete connected on the first goal of the game after receiving a pass from Kate Loye and dribbling past the Middle Tennessee back line to find the back if the net.
"It wasn't as much problem defensively we just didn't keep the ball," Head Coach Aston Rhoden said. "We would make two or three passes and then force it and against a good team when you lose the ball like that and they control possession they will take advantage."
USF would follow that with a Loye goal that was chipped in from 18 yards out in the 57th minute and a goal by Olivia Chance in the 66th minute to give the Bulls the 3-0 advantage.
"It was unfortunate for us to give up two soft goals but at the same time we didn't hang on to the ball enough to create any opportunities," Rhoden said. "I thought we did that early in the game but we dropped off and USF found its rhythm and they took their opportunities."
Grace Summers led the Blue Raiders in shooting with four shots with two of those on frame. USF out shot Middle Tennessee 21 to 9 with 14 shots taken by the Bulls in the second half.
Brouwer collected seven saves saves on the night, while Middle Tennessee drops to 1-2-1 on the season. MT will face Austin Peay in its next match-up in the Blue Raider Classic on Sunday at 5 p.m.
"We told our team good team are bound to suffer bad losses," Rhoden said. "This is a bad loss for us. Now we just need to head into Sunday and see if we can put this game behind us by correcting some of the things we didn't do well here and hope we can use this as a stepping stone and a learning experience."
