MT Earns No. 5 Seed with, 1-1, Tie at ODU

Mauck scored her fourth goal of the year for MT
NORFOLK, Va. – The Middle Tennessee soccer team earned one point and the No. 5 seed in the upcoming C-USA Tournament with a, 1-1, draw at Old Dominion on Sunday.
"I was really pleased with our effort considering the amount of travel that we have done the past few days," head coach Aston Rhoden said. "Earning four points on this road trip is a great positive heading into the conference championship."
The Blue Raiders set a new school record with its fourth consecutive overtime game and will play the No. 4-seeded Rice Owls in the opening round of the conference championship.
"The four straight double overtime games is a testament to the character of this team and their willingness to see the game through. We just find a way to get something out of a game," Rhoden said.
The match started with a bang as Madison Hogan put the Monarchs in front with her first goal of the season at the 2:31 mark. The score was preceded by a nice pass from teammate Grace Haverly, setting up a one-on-one situation.
The Blue Raiders immediately responded with a score of their own in the fifth minute after Courteney Gibson crossed the ball to an open Morgan Mauck who promptly deposited it into the back of the net for her fourth goal of the season.
The score was Mauck's second in as many games and the freshman has recorded eight points in her 10 starts on the year.
The pace slowed after Mauck's equalizer as the teams combined for just five more shots in the opening period and went into the locker room dead-locked at one.
Each offense tried to push ahead in the second stanza as Middle Tennessee peppered Old Dominion with eight shots and MT goalkeeper Kelsey Brouwer was forced to make five saves on the other end.
Brouwer finished the game with nine saves, but none was bigger than her stop in the final minute of double overtime, which preserved the tie.
The Blue Raiders will take on Rice in the first round of the C-USA Tournament on Wednesday at 12:30 p.m. MT tied the Owls, 0-0, in the sides' only meeting this season on Oct. 18.
